Amberwell Hiawatha Honors Megan Volle, RN, with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Care

Amberwell Hiawatha is honored to announce Megan Volle, RN, as our newest DAISY Award recipient. As an overnight labor and delivery nurse, Megan supported first-time mother Sierra Goering through an intense and emotional delivery.

In this nomination, Sierra describes how Megan’s calm leadership, steady encouragement, and constant presence helped guide her through the delivery and exhibited care that reflects the very best of nursing.

“Megan was one of the overnight nurses who cared for me during the birth of our firstborn son, and I honestly don’t think I could have done it without her. I thought I had prepared for delivery, but every time a new roadblock, doubt, or wave of pain came up, Megan was right there to pull me through.

She has an amazing way of connecting with everyone in the room, whether patient or teammate, and she holds herself to a high standard. She was professional but also deeply human and genuine, which meant everything to me in those moments.

The entire delivery team was wonderful, but Megan’s presence stood out. She happened to be stationed at my upper left side (poor Megan!), and it quickly became clear that’s exactly where she needed to be. From her calm words and tone of voice to the way she went the extra mile keeping my ChapStick close, brushing my hair out of my face, and making sure I had water, she knew what I needed before I did. I may have squeezed her hand off during each contraction, but she never once let go.

At one point, I truly didn’t think I had any strength left. Megan leaned in, motivated me, and gave me the courage to keep going. It wasn’t just what she said, but how she said it. Her calmness, confidence, and steady encouragement went far beyond the clinical care she provided.

She supported not just me, but everyone in the room. You could tell her teammates trusted and respected her. She led with grace, compassion, and confidence, creating a sense of calm that grounded everyone. Even now, when I think back to that night, I can still hear her voice helping me stay centered and strong.

Megan truly embodies what nursing is all about. She made me feel seen, safe, and supported during one of the hardest and most meaningful experiences of my life. I will always be grateful for her care, her courage, and the way she carried me through that night. She is the nurse that every first-time mother deserves to have in their delivery room, hands down.”

Thank you, Megan, for all you do. The care and commitment you bring to every patient, every day, make a real difference in our community and Amberwell.

The DAISY Award Program recognizes nurses who combine clinical excellence with compassion, confidence, and genuine connection. Presented three times each year at Amberwell Hiawatha, the award is based on nominations submitted by Amberwell patients and their families. These nominations help us recognize nurses who consistently go above and beyond.

If you know a nurse whose care has stayed with you, please consider nominating them for a DAISY Award using the following link or one of the nomination boxes located throughout our facilities. https://team.getwell.health/public/rounds/daisy/4181
