Amberwell Health Hiawatha has received six American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease, stroke and cardiac arrest, helping save lives, support recovery and reduce hospital readmissions.
Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 4 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. Studies show patients can experience better outcomes when care teams consistently follow evidence-based treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest science-backed guidelines. As a participant in the Get With The Guidelines programs, Amberwell Hiawatha qualified for the awards by demonstrating a sustained commitment to improving the quality of cardiovascular care.
“At Amberwell Hiawatha, our commitment is to ensure every patient receives evidence-based care that is timely, consistent, and aligned with nationally recognized best practices,” said Nichole Chamley, MSN, RN, FACHE, CENP, Chief Nursing Officer at Amberwell Hiawatha. “These awards recognize the dedication of our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, EMS partners, and clinical teams who work together every day to deliver exceptional care close to home. As a rural hospital, earning recognition across multiple cardiovascular, stroke, heart failure, and resuscitation programs demonstrates our ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and continuous quality improvement for the communities we serve.”
This year, Amberwell Health Hiawatha received these achievement awards:
- Get With The Guidelines® – Rural Coronary Artery Disease NSTE-ACS Gold Achievement Award
- Get With The Guidelines® – Rural Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Silver Achievement Award
- Get With The Guidelines® – Rural Heart Failure Silver Achievement Award
- Get With The Guidelines® – Resuscitation Silver Achievement Award (Adult)

Amberwell Hiawatha is also recognized with the American Heart Association’s Target: CPR award. The ability to consistently perform high-quality CPR is crucial for improving cardiac arrest outcomes; the difference between CPR and high-quality CPR is survival. Target: CPR awarded sites demonstrate they are using Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation to monitor CPR quality during their Code Blue Events.
“These awards reflect Amberwell Hiawatha’s commitment to caring for people in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Karen E. Joynt Maddox, M.D., MPH, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Amberwell Health Hiawatha can help advance our shared vision of better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for patients, families and health care systems.”
