Congratulations to Lisa Hill, LPN, our most recent recipient of the DAISY Award at Amberwell Hiawatha. Lisa works in our med/surg department and was nominated by a grateful patient who shared that during her hospital stay, Lisa’s kindness and attentiveness far exceeded her expectations. Lisa made the patient and her family feel truly cared for and comfortable during a difficult time. In her nomination, the patient wrote the following:
“I would like to nominate Lisa for a Nursing DAISY Award in recognition of the outstanding care and compassion she provided during my hospital stay. Lisa worked night shift and cared for me nearly every night I was admitted, and her consistency, attentiveness, and kindness made a meaningful difference to me and my family.
“Knowing I was exhausted, Lisa went above and beyond to ensure I could rest. She thoughtfully clustered care, coordinating medications, vital signs, and other tasks to minimize interruptions. She anticipated my needs and even took the initiative to obtain an order for continuous telemetry monitoring so that she could closely track my vitals without waking me. Her anticipation and advocacy were remarkable.
“What truly set her apart, however, was the genuine compassion she showed not only to me, but also to my family. Knowing my children were upset after missing our planned movie night, Lisa thoughtfully offered to help us create a movie night at the hospital. She helped gather snacks and drinks so that we could still have a movie night together from my hospital bed.
“After being transferred to a higher level of care, it became even clearer how personalized and remarkable Lisa’s care truly was. I felt exceptionally cared for and comfortable under her watch.
“Lisa exemplifies the very best of nursing clinical excellence, patient advocacy, and compassion. Her kindness, attentiveness, and commitment to patient-centered care truly exemplify what nursing is all about.”
The DAISY Award Program recognizes nurses who combine clinical excellence with compassion, confidence, and genuine connection. The award is based on nominations submitted by Amberwell patients and their families. These nominations help us recognize nurses who consistently go above and beyond.
