Emergencies happen fast, and they can feel overwhelming. When emergencies happen, the best place to be is in an ER where you are surrounded by people who know what to do and are ready to help.
At Amberwell Atchison, our Emergency Care team is trained to respond quickly. Most of the time, we can begin treatment within minutes of arrival. Because our wait times are shorter than urban hospitals, patients are seen sooner and care begins right away.
Many emergencies can be handled here in Atchison but sometimes it is determined that a patient needs specialized services at regional center focused on that type of care. When that is the case, we start the transfer process. The process begins with our local EMS but may include other area ground or air ambulances, depending on the situation.
I know the word waiting can sound scary in an emergency. But waiting for a transfer does not mean being left alone. Patients are in a hospital bed, medications are given as needed, and providers are close by. We keep a close eye on vital signs, the seriousness of the condition, and how the patient is responding while coordinating the transfer.
No hospital can provide every type of care. But beginning your care here, with a capable team by your side, gives you the best possible start for what comes next.
Having an emergency department here in Atchison is something not every community has, and we are grateful will. And we’re grateful for the strong regional partners who help us make sure patients receive the care they need, wherever that may be.
It’s a privilege to care for this community, and our team is here whenever you need us.
