National Healthcare Education Week is a time to recognize the educators who keep healthcare professionals prepared, supported, and always growing. At Amberwell, that recognition highlights Allison Benner, Manager of Education Services.
Since 2020, Allison has led education services across every Amberwell location. With more than thirteen years as a bedside nurse in med/surg and oncology and a master’s degree in nursing education, she now focuses on ensuring staff have the skills and support needed to deliver excellent care. “I don’t get to interact with patients one-on-one anymore,” she shared, “but I make sure our nurses have the training they need to deliver the best possible care and stay up to date with healthcare standards.”
Her work touches nearly every corner of the organization:
- Onboarding new staff and coordinating department orientation
- Interdepartmental competency training
- Simulation and mock code drills
- Continuing education opportunities
- Policy and procedure education hospital-wide
- Training on equipment, protocols, and procedures for clinical and non-clinical staff
- Support for licensure, certifications, and continuing education
- Coordination of student and academic affiliations
Through her role at Amberwell, Allison is helping bring First Aid, CPR & AED training to the community, ensuring more people feel confident stepping in when it matters most. “I think it’s important that people feel comfortable stepping in to help when a problem arises,” she explained. She encourages schools, daycare centers, medical offices, and even teens who babysit to take part.
Though she misses the daily patient connections she once had, Allison knows her work now impacts every patient who comes to Amberwell by equipping caregivers with the knowledge and confidence they need.
Outside of work, Allison enjoys family vacations to the mountains or the beach, caring for her chickens, and spending time with family—especially around the holidays, when they go out together to see Christmas lights.
Amberwell is proud to celebrate Allison and the vital role she plays in supporting our mission through education. During National Healthcare Education Week, we honor her commitment to quality, accountability, and care that strengthens our entire community.
