Cory Schrick, PA-C, is an orthopedic care provider at Amberwell Hiawatha and Amberwell Atchison.
Cory has more than 20 years of experience in orthopedic care and sports medicine and is known for his trustworthy and personal approach to care. He focuses on helping patients stay active as long as possible, whether that means returning to work, daily routines, or the activities they enjoy.
On choosing to become a Physician Assistant…
Healthcare has long been part of Cory’s life. His mother, Pam Schrick, worked as a medical assistant for several healthcare providers in the Atchison area. His aunt, Sister Mary Rae Schrick, also a Physician Assistant, influenced his path greatly. She cared for generations of patients in the Atchison area and her name is still recognizable to many.
Cory’s interest in healthcare was also shaped by athletics. A former football player at Benedictine College and a two-time All-American, he was drawn to orthopedics and sports medicine as a way to help athletes recover, stay active, and avoid long-term injury. After graduating with honors from both Benedictine College and Wichita State University, he chose the Physician Assistant path, which has allowed him to work hands-on with athletes and remain closely involved in their care.
“Because I played football, I felt like I wanted to take care of athletes. But once I got into orthopedics, I realized they’re just some of the patients you take care of. I really enjoy taking care of eight-year-olds and eighty-year-olds just as much. I’m glad this is where I landed because I can’t see myself doing anything else.”
On choosing Amberwell Health…
Amberwell appealed to Cory because it allows him to practice in a region where he has longstanding personal and professional ties.
“It was kind of a full-circle moment. I grew up in Nortonville, played youth sports in Atchison, and graduated from Benedictine. In a way, I feel like I am coming back home.”
Providing care in communities where people know each other and where providers often care for multiple generations of the same family aligns well with Cory’s belief that familiarity and reliability are essential to long-term healthcare relationships.
On being patient-centered…
For Cory, patient care is built on clear communication and personal interaction. He likes to keep things straightforward and build trust with his patients. He makes it a point to stay accessible, often answering calls after hours, and keeping conversations open.
Cory treats his patients as he would his own family. It is an approach that has earned him the trust of the community and allowed him to build long-term relationships with the people he serves.
“People come to me for the personal relationship, and I feel that’s where I set myself apart.”
About Cory
Cory resides with his wife, Mandee, and three growing children in northwest Missouri.
Coaching high school football is one of Cory’s biggest passions, with most of his summer and fall afternoons and evenings being spent on the football field. Much of his volunteer time is connected to the local school district in support of the student-athletes.
When he’s not at work or on the football field, Cory enjoys working on his farm and growing his cow-calf operation.
Also an avid outdoorsman, Cory tries to spend as much time as possible hunting and fishing with his son. Their favorite trip takes them to Canada to catch walleye.
