Jessie Scheitel, FNP-C is a primary care provider at Amberwell Atchison.

Jessie began her healthcare career as a nurse at Amberwell Hiawatha, where she built a strong foundation in patient care before earning her certification as a family nurse practitioner. Her transition into primary care reflects years of direct clinical experience, and a focus on honest communication and practical problem-solving.

On Becoming a Nurse Practitioner

Jessie can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to go into healthcare. Her early passion became a career in nursing, where she gained valuable hands-on experience and deepened her understanding of patient care. Over time, she felt called to do more for her patients. Becoming a family nurse practitioner allowed her to expand her role while keeping the same practical, patient-first mindset.

Jessie values the opportunity to build lasting relationships and provide a wide range of care, which is especially important in rural communities where access to specialty services can be limited. She sees her role as a provider as an extension of the work she’s always been drawn to.

“As a nurse, you’re always at the front of caring for the patient. Becoming a nurse practitioner lets me keep that focus while providing a different level of patient-centered care.”

On Patient Care

Jessie believes patients shouldn’t feel intimidated in a healthcare setting. She works to create an atmosphere where patients feel comfortable speaking openly and are confident in their care. Her years as a bedside nurse inform her approach every day. She values direct, honest communication and sees problem-solving as one of the most important skills a healthcare provider can bring to the table.

“I don’t ever want to be seen as a scary or stuffy provider. I’m a person—and I’ve probably been in your shoes.”

Jessie also enjoys caring for women through all stages of life. She believes in offering practical, responsive care that respects each woman’s individual experience.

On Choosing Amberwell

As Jessie completed her advanced training the decision to stay with Amberwell felt like the right fit. Her experience at Amberwell Hiawatha helped her build strong professional roots, and the opportunity to stay within the system appealed to her.

“I think Amberwell has always had a family feel… I am excited about the direction things are going at Amberwell, and I knew I wanted to be part of it.”

About Jessie

Jessie grew up in northeast Kansas and now lives in the area with her husband and their two young boys. Her family is central to her life, and time outside of work often includes music, weekend outings, and working on home improvement projects.

A trained singer and musician, Jessie enjoys singing and playing music to relax. She’s also an avid reader who enjoys almost every genre of writing.

Jessie stays active in her local parish and community. She’s a proud 4-H alum and continues to volunteer to support various 4-H activities. Jessie also enjoys participating in several parks and recreation activities such as co-ed sports, yoga, and water aerobics.
