Jordan Clare, DPM, is a podiatrist at Amberwell Atchison, Amberwell Hiawatha, and Amberwell Lansing Clinic. He covers most podiatry needs, including diabetic wound care, toenail care, limb salvage, foot surgery, and ankle surgery for patients of every age.
Being part of a practice connected to hospital care, not separate from it, was part of what drew Dr. Clare to Amberwell, so that when a patient’s needs go beyond a typical clinic visit, that care is readily available. That matters in complex situations like limb salvage, where getting multiple healthcare providers moving quickly, without sending a patient somewhere new, can make all the difference.
That connection carries through everywhere he practices. At Amberwell Atchison and Amberwell Hiawatha, hospital care and a full range of outpatient clinics sit side by side under one roof. At Amberwell Lansing Clinic, patients have access to many of those same outpatient services, with Amberwell Atchison nearby providing hospital-level care when needed.
“I’m able to do more, quicker, for patients,” Dr. Clare says. “You have a better relationship with the other services, and a lot of it is in-house, so you can expedite things, especially when you’re trying to do limb salvage.”
Dr. Clare’s path to podiatry started with a love of anatomy. As an undergrad, he assisted with teaching anatomy courses and considered several surgical specialties before a conversation at a graduate school fair introduced him to podiatry. What sealed it was the range of the work itself: surgery, wound care, and sports-related injuries, for patients from childhood through their senior years, all within one practice. “I like the scope of it. I don’t feel like I’m doing the same thing every day,” he says. It also offered something he’d been looking for all along: enough balance to make it to his kids’ ball games and recitals.
Dr. Clare’s approach centers on getting patients back to pain-free living, whether that means resolving a recent injury or managing a longer-standing condition like arthritis or tendonitis.
“I take the time to understand the problem, not just see what it is, but really work with each patient to find the approach that fits what they need,” Dr. Clare says.
Most of what he treats is acute (a new issue that needs quick, decisive care), with a smaller share of longer-standing conditions like arthritis or tendonitis mixed in. Either way, the goal stays the same. “Our goal is to get you pain-free,” he says.
If you’re looking for footwear advice, Dr. Clare recommends a good pair of supportive shoes and regular stretching, advice he says solves the majority of everyday foot pain before it becomes a bigger problem.
Dr. Clare and his wife are raising five sons together, which keeps the family busy with sports and outdoor activities. When he’s not at the clinic, you’ll usually find him fishing. Bass fishing has been a lifelong passion. The family enjoys getting out to local fairs and festivals, and Dr. Clare, who grew up around small-town rodeo, is passing that same love of community tradition on to his kids.
