Lucas Bauer, PA-C, is a primary care provider at Amberwell Lansing Clinic.
Lucas provides comprehensive primary care to individuals and families of all ages.
A U.S. Army veteran with more than twenty years of medical and leadership experience, Lucas brings the perspective of both a combat medic and a physician assistant to his role in patient care. Before joining Amberwell, he served as a PA at the Army Corrections Brigade at Fort Leavenworth, managing care for more than 1,500 Soldiers and inmates across the Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility.
Lucas first connected with Amberwell several years ago through his work at Fort Leavenworth, where he often referred patients to Amberwell Atchison for imaging and follow-up care. “I had really good experiences referring into Amberwell Atchison. Everything came back quickly. The reports were clean, and the communication was solid,” he recalled. When an opportunity at Amberwell Lansing Clinic opened, those positive experiences made Amberwell an easy choice. Staying in the Lansing community allows him to continue serving the same population he’s supported for years.
Lucas began his medical career at age 18 as a U.S. Army combat medic, later serving as a tactical and advanced EMT before earning his commission as a physician assistant. His path reflects his passion for hands-on medicine and leadership through service. “I knew that if I stayed as a regular medic, I’d have to go into leadership and not actually do hands-on medicine, so I went to the medicine side, and it’s been awesome,” he said. During his military career, he mentored more than 130 healthcare specialists, taught in Army medical programs, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions in combat.
Lucas is known for his direct, approachable style and emphasis on patient education. “I like educating. I tell patients what’s wrong and explain what they can do better—because an empty schedule is better if it means the whole community is healthy,” he said. His goal is to make every visit practical and understandable, helping patients take an active role in their care both inside and outside the clinic.
Lucas has a quick sense of humor—he joked that he almost showed up to his professional photo session for Amberwell dressed as Deadpool. “You dress for the job you want,” he said.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, and gaming. Lucas and his wife have two sons and are happy to live just a short distance from the Amberwell Lansing Clinic.
