October 12–18 is National Patient Account Management Week, and Amberwell is proud to recognize the dedicated team members of our Patient Financial Services Team who support patients behind the scenes each day.
Across our locations, our Patient Financial Services team guides patients through every non-clinical step of care—from scheduling and registration to insurance verification, account coordination, and more. Whether greeting patients at the front desk, preparing forms, or answering complex questions, these professionals help ensure each visit runs smoothly.
Many team members also serve as resources for patients navigating financial or insurance concerns. Financial counselors offer personalized support to help patients plan for healthcare costs and understand available options. For those with questions about insurance enrollment or benefits, our healthcare benefits navigator provides free, confidential help to simplify the process.
To celebrate this recognition and give others a chance to get to know the people behind the roles, many team members shared their responses to a few lighthearted questions—including what they wanted to be when they grew up, and a life lesson that’s stuck with them over the years.
Each role on this team contributes to a patient experience built on clarity, compassion, and trust. Amberwell is grateful for the expertise and commitment our Patient Accounts teams bring to their work—and for the support they offer patients at every stage of their healthcare journey.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a teacher and a coach!
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
When my sisters pushed me down a hill on my bike that had recently had the training wheels taken off of it. Their plan was to teach me how to ride a bike. Sadly it did end up working.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I was obsessed with being a Paleontologist as a kid. I didn’t go through with it, but I did pass on the dino-obsession to my youngest!
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
I danced for years and every winter I would force my older sister to perform a choreographed dance with me in our front yard dancing around my mom’s light up trees. Looking back now I was so serious about her learning the steps exactly right that it doesn’t surprise me that I ended up student teaching her dance class as a teen!
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Since I was young, I’ve wanted a career where I could make a positive impact on people’s lives. Over time, that goal has guided me toward roles focused on helping others—whether by offering support, solving problems, or creating meaningful connections.
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
A funny childhood memory is when I tried to copy a dance from TV in front of the mirror. I slipped and made silly faces, but I laughed at myself and kept going. It taught me to embrace trying new things, even if it’s a little messy.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
It changed often until I got into nursing
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
All the fun memories of living on the farm – cousins and neighbors coming over – playing in the creeks and in the barns – driving old cars in the fields (things we would never let our kids do today LOL)
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be writer after creating a short story in 2nd grade.
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
I used to force my parents to come and participate in my many tea parties. They were always quite entertained by the specific requirements like, “You must pick and 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 a hat from my selection” or “Please do not speak in anything besides a British accent.” The funniest part is my dad’s refusal to break character, but his “accent” was a mix of Australian and something else I’ve never heard before. He still rocks that “accent” every once in awhile.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to do tricks with horses when I grew up – so I guess it’s safe to say I wanted to run away with the circus.
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
We took a family trip to Nashville by way of St. Louis to visit relatives. My sister was in a home economics type class and, at that time, they had to carry a bag of flour with them everywhere they went as their “baby”. Since we were leaving on vacation, my sister was given permission to use a baby doll rather than a bag of flour. To prove she carried it, the baby had to be in all the pictures from the vacation that she was in. Now, looking at the pictures from that trip, we all laugh at all the pictures of baby Sarah.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a nurse. I knew from a young age I wanted to help people.
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
Going to someone’s house to “look at puppies”, I was even told multiple times on the way there that we were not getting one today, we were just going to look. I fell in LOVE with one puppy, that I started crying when we were leaving, because I didn’t want to leave without it. Needless to say we left that night with that puppy, leaving us to go to Walmart extremely late to get supplies for this puppy, but my heart was full of love and my face was full of puppy kisses.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A lawyer, LOL. I guess healthcare is at the opposite end of the spectrum! The ironic thing was that I worked at a lawyer’s office for 6 months and I absolutely hated it! I followed the right path!
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
My older sisters always made things fun for me and made me laugh. I have 4 older sisters that are quite a bit older than me so they were more like moms to me. One of my early memories (like 2 to 3 years old) was that we had a Mexican sombrero so they would put it on their head with me on it and dance around. We all loved disco music, especially the Bee Gees!
What did you want to be when you grew up?
First I wanted to be a veterinarian, then an English teacher (to pay the bills) and write (what I really wanted to be).
What’s a childhood memory that makes you laugh?
When I was 7 or 8, we spent the summer living on an old farmstead. We had always lived in-town before that, and when we discovered there were lots (and I mean LOTS) of toads around, my brother and I decided to capture them and keep them as pets in our plastic wading pool. We had probably close to a hundred of them in there. We would catch them in the day, then, when we went to bed, most of them would jump out and we would catch them again the next day.
