Mark your calendars for the annual Amberwell Health Fair in Hiawatha, KS on Saturday, October 7 from 8am to noon. Indoor and outdoor activities make this a fun family day for all! The event will be held inside the new Robinson Center indoor facility at Noble Ball Park in Hiawatha.

Look forward to health screenings, flu shots, educational activities, Touch-a-Truck with emergency vehicles, LOTS of prizes and giveaways, snacks, bouncy houses, games, challenges—and a special appearance by KC Wolf!

The Amberwell health fair event is free and open to the community, though food truck vendors will be onsite for attendees to purchase coffee and snacks.

Free screenings

Health screenings include:

• blood pressure checks
• cholesterol and glucose screenings*

Flu Shots

Attendees can get an annual flu shot for free with most insurance, or $25 cash.

Cholesterol and Glucose Screenings

*Free cholesterol and glucose screenings are available to the first 100 participants. Do not eat after midnight if you plan to have this screening.

Community Collaborators

Many local community agencies, organizations, first responders, and businesses will be at the fairs, sharing a variety of useful information about the various services and resources available to promote good health at home and in the community.

Giveaways and Prizes

In addition to great health resources from Amberwell as well as community health collaborators, attendees can look forward to door prizes, giveaways, treats, bouncy houses, games, challenges, and lots of children’s activities—plus a special appearance by KC Wolf!

Have you shared your future healthcare decisions with your family, friends, and healthcare providers? Come and learn about advance care planning from the social services team at Amberwell Atchison.

Friday, October 20 from 8am to 12pm in the main lobby of Amberwell Atchison, members from Amberwell’s social services team will be available to answer questions and help you fill out documents relating to advance directives, DNRs, durable power of attorney, and more. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this important topic and ask any questions you may have. We hope to see you there!

The Maternal Care team at Amberwell Atchison is excited to invite you to a free class that they will be hosting on November 14th from 5:30pm-6:30pm. The class will be held in the administration conference room at Amberwell Atchison. and will focus on Breastfeeding Basics.

The class is open to expectant parents planning their birth experience at Amberwell Atchison, regardless of their experience with breastfeeding. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other expectant parents and expand your knowledge on breastfeeding.

During the class, our own certified lactation counselor and trained maternal care staff will be covering a range of topics including:

• How breastfeeding works
• How to establish a healthy milk supply
• How to know if baby is getting enough milk
• Breastfeeding positions
• How partners can support the breastfeeding parent
• Additional resources if you find you need more help.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions, share your own experiences, and participate in demonstrations and videos in a safe, supportive environment.
