Justin Theleman, MD

Justin Theleman, MD, is an emergency care provider at Amberwell Atchison. Prior to joining Amberwell, Dr. Theleman completed his residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria where he gained extensive experience treating patients in both urban and rural emergency room settings.

On Choosing Amberwell Atchison…

Dr. Theleman was raised on a farmstead in a small town of about three hundred residents near Hays, Kansas. One of his biggest motivations for becoming a doctor was to provide care for small communities in need, like the one he grew up in. “I chose Amberwell because I was looking for an opportunity to serve in a more rural area,” said Dr. Theleman. “I grew up in an extremely rural community and understand firsthand how important it is for people to have access to quality healthcare close to home. I was also drawn to Amberwell Atchison because of its location,” he continued. “Both my wife and I have family in northeast Kansas, and as our own family is growing, we wanted to be closer to them.”

On Becoming a Healthcare Provider…

“I grew up on a farm with two older brothers” said Dr. Theleman. “We were always getting into accidents—sledding accidents, shop accidents, you name it. We became accustomed to going to the hospital at an early age, and those experiences really had an impact on me. What I love most about working in the ER is that I get to treat a wide range of patients and conditions during any given shift,” he continued. “I get to see the whole scope of patients—from neonatal to geriatric.”

About Dr. Theleman

Dr. Theleman is married with one little girl and a son on the way. His wife also serves in the healthcare field as an occupational therapist. In their free time, they love spending time outdoors, especially gardening and landscaping around their new home. Dr. Theleman also enjoys woodworking in his garage where he builds everything from dining room tables to custom cabinetry.
