At Amberwell, we are fortunate to witness the incredible care our nurses provide every day. The DAISY Award Program recognizes nurses who stand out through their clinical expertise and the way they make a difference in their patients’ lives.
Today, we are delighted to announce Christina Grier, RN, as our newest DAISY Award recipient. Christina has been a vital member of the team at Amberwell Hiawatha since 2006, demonstrating her enduring commitment to her patients and their families.
This touching story shared by a patient’s loved one beautifully highlights Christina’s professionalism and compassion during a challenging moment. It also reminds us of the vital role nurses play in providing not just care, but also comfort and support for patients and their families:
“Christina was one of the ER nurses on duty when my significant other came in that morning. He was in a lot of pain, couldn’t breathe, weak, and anxious. We were both scared. Christina was ready to act, doing anything she could to get him comfortable, decrease his anxiety, and fear. Christina acted so confidently and professional and had such a caring approach not only for him but also for myself. As some family members started coming in, she was also very caring and helpful to them, which can be hard especially when there are so many! Christina continued to follow the doctors orders given for his care, with such a gentle yet thorough touch. Christina also told us (me and my significant other) to keep talking to each other as long as we could before he had to be transferred. That helped so much, and now looking back I’m so glad I had that time with him, and could be with him before he left. Family was around him at one time and reminded him of how much love there was. Christina went above and beyond caring for him and helping with all the family. She is amazing, and I’m so glad she was there. I think she has earned the DAISY Award, probably time and time again.”
The DAISY Award is presented three times a year and is based on nominations submitted by Amberwell patients and their families. These nominations allow us to celebrate the nurses who go above and beyond in their service.
