Dr. Carpenter grew up in a small town in Arkansas, about half the size of Atchison. She moved to Destin, Florida, when she was eleven and graduated from high school there. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Florida, she earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed her internship in General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee, performed her residency in Orthopedic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital Michigan, and completed a fellowship for shoulder and elbow surgery at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Maryland.
When Dr. Carpenter was a child, her mother was a pediatric nurse at Lebonheur Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She grew up reading her mother’s medical books and was fascinated by anatomy.
“I learned all of the bones in the body when I was in the 5th grade, so I think a part of me always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. I just didn’t know what that was until I broke my ankle at 13 while cheerleading. I had a long leg cast on for the summer and learned firsthand what orthopedic surgeons do, and I fell in love.”
“As a shoulder replacement surgeon, being patient-centered means focusing on the best outcomes possible for my patients. This is why I use a variety of shoulder replacement systems, tailoring the result to each patient I see. I utilize cutting-edge techniques to do my best so that the shoulder replacement will last as long as possible and give my patient the best result out there. I also believe being patient-centered means taking the time to learn about the whole patient. As orthopedic surgeons, we save lifestyles. I get to know what my patients are interested in so that I can get them back to doing what they enjoy as soon as possible”
“I love the people of Lansing and its surrounding areas,” said Dr. Carpenter. “The staff at Amberwell are friendly and excellent at their jobs. I was excited to join a team of people who are all centered around creating the best experience possible for our patients.”
Dr. Carpenter lives in the Kansas City area with her husband and daughter. They enjoy golfing as a family on the weekends. Dr. Carpenter’s other interests include anything outdoors or fitness-related. She loves the beach and travels to one any chance she gets.
