Amberwell Health is extremely fortunate to have a talented team of highly trained and experienced radiology technologists serving at Amberwell Atchison.
The field of radiology is often referred to as the “eyes of medicine” because it is similar to the way the eyes of the body shed light on the external world. Radiology sheds light on the internal world, revealing the internal structure and organs of the body.

Radiology Technology Services
The services our radiology technologists provide are crucial when diagnosing and treating patients. Our rad techs perform a wide variety of screening exams and diagnostic procedures and produce images of the internal organs to determine the location of the problem so that providers can properly diagnose their patients and administer the proper treatments. Without the ability to see inside the patient’s body using radiologic methods, the provider would have a difficult time pinpointing and evaluating the patient’s medical issue.
Many of our radiology technologists are cross trained in multiple modalities and have obtained multiple registries. Their flexibility enables them to provide many services for our communities.
Team Strength
“A big strength of this team is that we have excellent teamwork,” said Director of Radiology Services Leslea Moranz. “We all do different things and have strengths in different modalities, but we help each other when needed. We are a true family!”
In Their Own Words
Members from our radiology team share how they impact patient experience at Amberwell Atchison:
“As a radiologic technologist, I am performing a vital service to my community members. It gives me a sense of self-worth to provide care for others. Despite what is going on in the world, I strive to offer high-quality care with empathy and calmness to my patients and colleagues.”
Amber Kinsman
“My role as a technologist is to make the exam as efficient as possible with exceptional patient care!”
Tara Johansen
“I try to be pleasant, kind, and compassionate to all patients I interact with. Many of my patients are nervous or scared when they come in to have these tests done. I try to calm their fears by connecting with them on a personal level to hopefully take their minds off the test they are having done.”
Melissa Eastbourn
“I love my career because I have the opportunity to make mammography, which so many women fear or dread, a more comfortable, pleasant experience. Early detection for breast cancer is key, and if women are skipping or putting off their screenings, breast cancer will be found at later stages, making treatments and survival more of a challenge.”
Angie Brown
“I explain procedures and try to make patients feel comfortable. I provide excellent patient care to patients and their families and do my best to ensure that they have a positive experience while in my care.”
Heather Birkinsha
Thank You
Thank you to our radiology technology team for their hard work and the compassionate care that they provide to our patients every day.
Leslea Moranz, Director of Radiology Services
Leslea has been serving at Amberwell Atchison since she graduated from Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, thirty years ago. She is proud to be a part of this organization and to lead such a talented team of radiology technologists.
On Choosing Amberwell Atchison…
Leslea enjoys providing care in the Atchison community because she was raised in Atchison. She likes that many of the patients she cares for are familiar to her and that she can connect with them on a more personal level.
About Leslea
Family is a very important part of Leslea’s life. She says that raising three boys to become nice young men has been a joy. Her two oldest sons just bought homes of their own last year, and her youngest son is a sophomore at Pitt State.
