Amberwell’s cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services include pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with qualifying chronic lung disease, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, asbestosis, pneumonitis, and other lung conditions.
Our program provides supervised exercise training, health education, nutrition consultation, and breathing techniques, all personalized to meet the patient’s personal needs. “The goal of the comprehensive program,” said exercise specialist Courtney Lewman, “is to help patients improve lung function and reduce symptoms so that they can breathe easier, recover faster, and improve their quality of life.”
Pulmonary rehabilitation is typically a three-phase treatment process. Phases II and III are offered by Amberwell’s pulmonary rehabilitation team.
- Phase I usually begins while the patient is in the hospital. Once a patient’s hospital stay is complete, they are referred to Amberwell’s pulmonary rehabilitation program by local physicians and surrounding hospitals.
- Phase II is an early outpatient therapy program that lasts 8-12 weeks for most patients. Our skilled staff designs an exercise program to target each patient’s specific needs.
- Phase III is a lung health maintenance program that gives our patients the option to continue their pulmonary rehabilitation once they’ve graduated from Phase II.
“We find great satisfaction in working with our patients,” said registered nurse Desaray Wilson. “It is very rewarding to be part of a team that improves the quality of a person’s life.”
