Congratulations to Marty Zumbrunn on her retirement! Of her 47 years of experience in the medical field, we appreciate the 15 years, 11 months, and 3 weeks she has been with Amberwell Health. Marty has served in several key roles at Amberwell Atchison over the years including director of clinic operations, manager of clinic billing, clinic billing project manager, and clinic billing coordinator.
Marty’s favorite memories of her time at Amberwell Atchison include the interactions she’s had with the people on her team and the challenges of the ever-changing healthcare field. “I will fondly remember all of the opportunities I’ve had to learn new and different things,” said Marty, “and assisting others in other departments and areas.”
Although Marty is looking forward to retirement, it will be a big change for her as she has been working since the age of thirteen. Her first job was babysitting, she detasseled corn for a summer, and then she worked behind the counter at the Lion’s pool.
Marty’s first job in the medical field was for Dr. Wayne Wallace, Sr. She interviewed with the doctor the day after Thanksgiving of 1972 and had planned to meet up with family after the interview to do some holiday shopping, but Dr. Wallace, Sr., hired her on the spot that morning and wanted her to start immediately! She called her mom to explain that she was hired to start immediately and then got right to work! She went on to work for Dr. Burke for twenty years and Dr. Swayze for a few years before joining Amberwell Health.
In her retirement, Marty plans to spend time with her family. Her grandson Chris will play football on scholarship with NW Missouri State and her granddaughter Katie is involved in high school sports. Marty is looking forward to attending more of their games. She also has a daughter living in California that she is excited to go visit! Additionally, Marty plans to spend time sewing, woodworking, and making jewelry. “My mother and great aunt left me some older jewelry that I plan to remake into jewelry that I will wear,” said Marty.
Thank you, Marty, for your many faithful years of hard work and dedication and for all you have done for our community. Best wishes in your retirement.
