Jacqueline Pederson, FNP-C, is a primary care provider at Amberwell Atchison. Prior to joining our primary care team, Jackie spent much of her nursing career as a trauma nurse in an emergency department in a metropolitan area where she assisted in the care of patients suffering from various traumas, cardiac arrests, and stroke. She is excited to have the opportunity to provide exceptional care to patients of all ages and health needs in Atchison and its surrounding areas.
Jackie chose Amberwell Atchison after completing three clinical rotations in Atchison under the supervision of Amberwell Primary Care providers. “I really enjoyed doing my clinical rotations at Amberwell Atchison,” said Jackie. “I was able to see firsthand how Amberwell is truly about supporting their patients and giving back to the community.” Also, having grown up in a small town herself, Jackie is happy to return to serving in a smaller community with a close-knit feel.
Jackie became interested in the medical field as a high school student. She has always been drawn to health, wellness, and helping people. “During my time as a trauma nurse in the ED,” said Jackie, “I saw many cases where patients could have avoided a trip to the emergency department had they taken the advice of their primary care providers. I am going to do my best to help my patients stay out of the ED and be as healthy as they can possibly be.”
At Amberwell Atchison, we focus on patient-centered care. We ask each of our providers to tell us what being patient-centered means to them personally.
“To me, being patient-centered means not only focusing on the patient, but also involving the family in discussions about the patient’s treatment options. It’s also about truly listening to the patient’s concerns about their health. No one knows how the patient feels within their body better than they do, and so while I may suspect a diagnosis, I still need to listen carefully to what my patient tells me about how he or she is feeling so that I can give them the best possible care.”
Jackie received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to receiving her MSN, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MidAmerican Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, and a Bachelor of Art in Corporate Communication from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. For the past four years, Jackie has served as a trauma nurse in an emergency department in Kansas City assisting in the care of patients with a wide range of critical health conditions. Prior to trauma nursing, she spent two years involved with inpatient med-surg, critical care step down, and infusion nursing.
Jackie loves spending time with her husband and their three young children. They like to attend local, community events and are active in their church. Jackie and her husband also enjoy golfing any chance they get.
