During Perinatal Nurses Week, October 10-16, Amberwell celebrates the dedicated maternal care teams at both our Atchison and Hiawatha locations who offer outstanding prenatal and reproductive healthcare services to women. They ensure not just the well-being of newborns, but also care for mothers from pre-pregnancy through to post-delivery.
Our maternal care department’s physicians are at the heart of this commitment. These well-rounded professionals don’t just guide parents through the journey of childbirth, they are also deeply involved in the whole health of each individual, ensuring the best care possible while pregnant. From advising on prenatal nutrition to monitoring fetal health, they ensure the foundation of a safe and healthy birth. Their expertise extends to managing various delivery methods, including natural births and C-sections. During labor and delivery, our nurse anesthetists administer necessary medications, such as epidurals for pain relief or even full sedation for emergencies.
Our labor and delivery nurses play an equally crucial role, supporting parents not just during childbirth but also in the precious moments that follow. They are on hand to assist with initial breastfeeding, baby’s first health checks, and the myriad of questions new parents often have. Our maternal care nurses are a rich resource for education on reproductive health and the different stages of pregnancy, ensuring every parent is empowered with knowledge.
We also recognize the important care provided for expectant parents in our primary care clinics during the months leading up to delivery. Though deliveries happen at the labor and delivery units at Amberwell Atchison and Amberwell Hiawatha, prenatal care is also provided at Amberwell Horton Clinic and Amberwell Troy Clinic.
Amberwell Maternal Care provides all-encompassing care that includes free pregnancy confirmation tests, breastfeeding support classes and resources with certified lactation consultants, childbirth education classes, and extras like aromatherapy during labor and celebration meals after delivery. From prenatal consultations to post-birth support, our maternal care team is with parents every step of the way.
