Amberwell Health is excited to announce the return of local health fairs for our communities, with two planned this fall. Amberwell Hiawatha will sponsor a health fair at Hiawatha High School on Saturday, October 1 from 10am to 2pm, and Amberwell Atchison will hold a health fair in Atchison on Saturday, October 15 from 8am to 12pm at Atchison Elementary School.
Indoor and outdoor activities and events make our Amberwell health fairs a family fun day. With over 50 booths and activities planned, attendees can look forward to free health screenings, vaccinations and blood tests, kids and adult educational activities, and lots of prizes and giveaways.
Free screenings
Amberwell staff members will be offering several health screenings, with availability varying depending on the event location. Screenings include:
- Blood pressure checks
- Fall risk assessments
- Baby weight checks
- Car seat checks
- Lung cancer screenings
- Carbon monoxide screenings
Flu Vaccinations
Attendees can get an annual flu shot for free with most insurance, or $25 cash. Since space is limited for flu shots, online pre-registration is encouraged. Click here to pre-register.
Medicare and Benefits Assistance
A health benefits navigator will be on hand to answer any questions about how to choose the best Medicare plan. She can help you with the following:
- Help you enroll in Medicare
- Help understand Medicare Advantage plans
- Identify plans that are best suited for you
- Complete enrollment and eligibility forms needed
Cholesterol and Glucose Screenings
Cholesterol and glucose screenings cost $10 and are limited availability. Do not eat after midnight if you plan to have this screening.

Many local community agencies, organizations, first responders, and businesses will be at the fairs, sharing a variety of useful information about the various services and resources available to promote good health at home and in the community.

In addition to great health resources from Amberwell as well as community health collaborators, attendees can look forward to door prizes, giveaways, treats, bouncy houses, games, challenges, and lots of children’s activities—plus special appearances by KC Wolf and Slugger!
