Infection Prevention Week celebrates the importance of infection prevention and the role of patient safety and infection prevention managers in protecting public health. Now, more than ever, infection prevention is a top-priority for Amberwell Health.
Leslie Cox, BSN, RN, serves as the patient safety and infection prevention manager for Amberwell Health. She works incredibly hard and does an outstanding job protecting our patients, employees, and community from infection. Her work is critical to our organization and to the work that our healthcare teams do on a daily basis. We rely heavily on her leadership and expertise to provide education to all staff and patients on how to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases and the development of practices to reduce the risk of infections.
Impact on Patient Experience
The work that Leslie does has a direct impact on patient experience. Patients can visit an Amberwell location for medical care and trust that our infection prevention policies and procedures are working to control and minimize the spread of infections within our facilities.
Responsibilities
In her role as patient safety and infection prevention manager, Leslie implements policies and procedures that help control and minimize the spread of infections such as hepatitis B, influenza, measles, and mumps within our healthcare organization and the community. This year, Leslie has been primarily focused on helping our healthcare teams reduce the spread of COVID-19. This includes keeping up-to-date on COVID-19 preparedness and communicating and implementing safety policies and procedures for all of our healthcare teams and all departments within our organization.
Collaborations
Keeping our patients safe is a group effort, and so Leslie relies heavily on her collaborations with different healthcare teams. She uses evidence-based practices to provide tools and education to our healthcare teams. The guidance she provides helps the teams practice with the most up-to-date skills for patient safety and the prevention of infections.
