We are excited to announce that Sheila Heineken will be retiring on Saturday, May 22, 2021, with over forty-five years of service at Amberwell Health!
Sheila joined our organization on March 2, 1976, as a part-time graduate practical nurse. She then graduated from NEKA Vo-Tech of Atchison in March of 1976 and became a full-time LPN. Since then, she has worked in several areas of the organization, including inpatient care, emergency care, surgery, maternal-child care, and quality improvement departments.
Sheila fondly reminisces about the patients she has cared for over the years, noting that many represent three generations from the same family. She has loved feeling a part of each family as she’s been greeted warmly and lovingly by them over many years. “I feel like I have made a difference for many of the patients,” said Sheila, “and even though I spent many holidays at work, it was still joyful because I was with my work family.”
In her retirement, Sheila is looking forward to sleeping in and no more alarms going off at 4:30 a.m. She is excited about spending time with her husband and her family. She hopes to do some traveling in the US and around the world. “There is so much to see!” said Sheila.
Although we are always sad to see amazing employees go, we are so happy for Sheila and wish her all the best in her retirement years.
