Danielle Jessee, FNP-C, is a primary care provider at Amberwell Atchison. Prior to joining Amberwell, Danielle provided primary and post-acute care to the geriatric population in the Kansas City area and also served as a registered nurse in the emergency department. Danielle provides acute primary care services at Amberwell Atchison and to the student body at Benedictine College.
“I chose Amberwell because I love getting to know my patients and having meaningful interactions with them,” said Danielle, “and I feel that I’m able to do that here. Atchison is a great community. It has all the amenities of a large town yet still has that small-town feel that I really like.”
“I’ve always known that I wanted to take care of people,” said Danielle. “As a teenager, I became interested in the healthcare field, and my mom really encouraged me to apply for a job as a dietary aide at our hometown hospital when I was sixteen years old. After that, I wanted more direct patient interaction, and so I worked my way from a dietary aide to a certified nursing assistant and just kept going.”
At Amberwell, we focus on patient-centered care. We ask each of our providers to tell us what being patient-centered means to them personally.
“To me,” said Danielle, “being patient-centered means getting to know the patient, respecting their preferences, and developing a care plan with them that addresses their needs and desired outcomes.”
Danielle began her career in the healthcare field when she was sixteen years old. At her mother’s suggestion, she started out as a dietary aide and then became a certified nursing assistant. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Luke’s College of Health Sciences. Danielle worked for several years as a nurse in the St. Luke’s Hospital’s emergency department, where she collaboratively developed an innovative tool to improve patient outcomes and nurse safety. She then went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Missouri and spent a year working as a nurse practitioner for geriatric patients before coming to Amberwell Health.
Danielle and her husband Nick share four children–two boys and two girls. When she is not caring for patients, Danielle is likely watching one of her children play baseball, volleyball, soccer, or golf. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading, and being active in her church.
