What is cardiac rehab?

Cardiac rehab at Amberwell is a customized and comprehensive program that includes treatment and education. We focus on factors that can help reduce future damage and risks to your heart, such as diet and nutrition, exercise, and stress management. Cardiac rehab is key to a healthier, stronger heart and an improved quality of life.

Who is eligible for cardiac rehab?

Cardiac rehabilitation services cater to patients recovering from heart conditions or surgeries. This program is tailored for individuals with specific heart-related diagnoses, such as

  • Myocardial infarct (heart attack)
  • Coronary artery bypass graft
  • Stable angina
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty or stenting)
  • Congestive heart failure (EF<35%)
  • Heart transplant

How can cardiac rehab help?

Qualified participants, often covered by Medicare or private insurance, receive a personalized regimen combining exercise and education, designed to foster a healthy, active lifestyle despite the challenges of heart disease. Participation in this program often allows you to:

  • Live longer
  • Lessen your chances for another heart attack
  • Control heart disease symptoms
  • Stop or reverse damage to your heart
  • Lessen the effects of heart disease
  • Improve your stamina and strength
  • Get back to your usual activities
  • Improve your confidence and well-being

Cardiac Rehab Program Overview

The journey begins with a referral from your primary care provider, leading to a customized exercise plan crafted by our skilled staff. This plan includes:

  • monitored sessions of warming up, stretching, exercising, and cooling down
  • using various equipment like treadmills, stationary bicycles, and free weights
The program, typically lasting 8-12 weeks, is carefully monitored to ensure your heart’s optimal response to physical activity. At the end of that time, you can enroll in our maintenance program, which will help you retain the conditioning you have received.
