Amberwell pain management services providers offer a variety of treatments that assist patients in reducing pain. We offer advanced image guided injections that utilize leading technology to include fluoroscopy and ultrasound.

Common Treatments for Chronic Pain Management

Bursitis Pain Relief

If you are suffering from Bursitis pain and other treatments have failed to bring relief, you may be a candidate for a bursa injection that can also treat trochanteric bursitis and ischial bursitis.

Bursa Injections

A bursa injection is an advanced interventional treatment that can be used to reduce inflammation in the bursa sacs, the fluid-filled fibrous sacs that are adjacent to joints in the body. The goal of the treatment is to produce long-term pain relief.

What to Expect during a Bursa Injection Procedure

A bursa injection is an outpatient procedure that involves injecting a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication into the bursa sac, under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. The procedure itself takes between ten to twenty minutes to complete and results in minimal downtime for the patient.

Knee Pain Relief

Knee Injections for Chronic Knee Pain

If you need relief for chronic knee pain, you may be a candidate for a knee injection. A knee injection is an advanced interventional procedure that can be used to diagnose and treat pain and inflammation in the knee joint.

What to Expect from a Knee Injection Procedure

The procedure involves injecting an anesthetic and steroid medication into the knee joint under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. The anesthetic serves to provide immediate pain relief and can help to confirm the source of the pain. The steroid serves to reduce the inflammation in the joint, leading to more long-term relief.

Hip Pain Relief

If you are seeking relief from chronic or acute hip pain, you may be a candidate for a hip injection. A hip injection is an advanced interventional procedure that can be used to diagnose and treat pain and inflammation in the hip joint.

What to Expect from a Hip Injection Procedure

The procedure involves injecting an anesthetic and steroid medication into the hip joint, under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. The anesthetic serves to provide immediate pain relief and can help to confirm the source of the pain. The steroid serves to reduce the inflammation in the joint, leading to more long-term relief.

Joint Pain Treatment

If you suffer from joint pain in the hands, feet, wrist, or elbow and are looking for an effective treatment, you may be a good candidate for small joint injection therapy. This advanced interventional treatment can be used to relieve pain, stiffness, and loss of mobility in the smaller joints.

What to Expect from a Small Joint Injection

A small joint injection involves injecting a corticosteroid and anesthetic into the small joints in the body to reduce inflammation thereby causing relief from the symptoms of pain, swelling, and stiffness. This outpatient procedure can produce pain relief that lasts for weeks or months and can be repeated for a certain number of times.

Intercostal Injection Treatment

For proven and effective intercostal injection treatment, you can turn to Amberwell anesthesia services. An intercostal injection is an advanced interventional treatment that can be used to address pain and inflammation of the tissue around the intercostal nerves, located in between the ribs or in the chest wall.

What to Expect from Intercostal Injection Treatment

The procedure involves injecting an anesthetic and steroid medication into the tissues surrounding the intercostal nerves, under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. The anesthetic serves to provide immediate pain relief and can help to confirm the source of the pain. The steroid serves to reduce the inflammation in the tissues, leading to more long-term relief.

Injections for Sacroiliac Pain

The most common symptoms of sacroiliac pain are low back pain and buttocks pain. The pain may affect the sacroiliac joint on one side or both sides of the body. In some cases, the pain can radiate down the leg, all the way to the foot. Symptoms will vary from patient to patient and can range from mild to debilitating. When more conservative treatments have failed to provide relief, sacroiliac injections may be used to first diagnose and then treat the source of the pain.

What to Expect from Sacroiliac Joint Injections

This process involves first injecting the sacroiliac joint with an anesthetic, under the guidance of fluoroscopy. If this provides immediate pain relief, a steroid injection may be used to reduce the inflammation thereby producing more long-term pain relief. A sacroiliac injection is an outpatient procedure that takes 20-30 minutes to complete. Some patients will get pain relief from one injection, while others will require multiple injections to get the maximum benefit.

Myofascial Pain Treatment and Trigger Point Release Treatment

Amberwell anesthesia services offers myofascial injections, also known as “trigger point injections,” as well as a variety of other proven and effective treatments for myofascial pain disorder. A myofascial injection is an advanced interventional treatment that involves injecting an anesthetic and sometimes a corticosteroid into the trigger points in the muscle, under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. This procedure can be effective in releasing the knots in muscles that are causing chronic and referred pain.

Trigger Point Release Treatment

Trigger point release treatment is an advanced interventional therapy that can be used to treat painful areas of muscle that form when muscles do not relax (trigger points). When trigger points form, it can irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain (pain that is felt in another part of the body). Injecting a steroid and anesthetic into trigger points can serve to relax the muscle and alleviate the pain. This interventional therapy is currently being used to treat a variety of chronic pain disorders including Fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and myofascial pain syndrome.

Injections to Release Tight Muscle Knots

A trigger point injection procedure involves injecting an anesthetic and a steroid into tight muscle knots to release the trigger points.

What to Expect from a Trigger Point Injection Procedure

This outpatient procedure takes only a few minutes to complete and most patients can resume normal activities that same day. If you come into our office for a trigger point injection, our providers will take the time to thoroughly explain the procedure and give you your pre- and post-procedure instructions.

Low Back Pain

Lumbar Steroid Epidurals

Lumbar steroid epidurals are an advanced interventional spine treatment that can be used to treat low back pain and sciatica caused by herniated discs, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, and other chronic back pain conditions.

What to Expect from a Lumbar Steroid Epidural Procedure

This outpatient procedure involves injecting a combination of steroids and anesthetic into the epidural space surrounding the affected nerve roots under the guidance of fluoroscopy. With lumbar steroid epidural injections, many patients find relief after just one injection. However, others may require two to three injections to achieve the maximum benefit.

Advanced Image Guidance

Our Amberwell anesthesia service is proud to offer patients a superior level of care using musculoskeletal ultrasound to better perform our services and improve your results. Ultrasound technology is a non-invasive method that can significantly improve the success of interventional treatments and other orthopedic and spine procedures. If you need injection therapy following an injury, our hometown providers have the most advanced treatments available, including the latest ultrasound techniques.

Advantages of Advanced Image Guidance

The overall advantage of choosing our musculoskeletal ultrasound technique is quite simple—the more we can see, the more we can do for you. Our GE Venue and Butterfly IQ systems are some of the latest advancements in ultrasound technology, allowing our providers to see all of the tissue layers, blood vessels, and nerves as well as the tendons, muscles ,and ligaments that need medical treatment. By using ultrasound, our physicians can accomplish more efficacious injections and increase patient safety.

  • We use ultrasound guidance to perform injections that are safer, more effective, and more precise.
  • Our ultrasound-guided trigger point injection technique helps our providers place your medication exactly where it needs to be providing a more effective and safer delivery method.
  • Other practitioners may offer blind trigger point injections without ultrasound. In many of these cases, the injection is conservatively performed and only penetrates the fat layer and not the muscle, which can decrease the effectiveness of the injection. Practitioners are justifiably trying to avoid an injection that is too deep which can cause complications like pneumothorax.
