A closer look at the cervix after an abnormal Pap test or other concern
A colposcopy is a simple procedure that allows your provider to take a closer look at the cervix, vagina, or vulva using a special magnifying device. It’s most often done after an abnormal Pap test or when there are visible changes that need further evaluation.
During the procedure, your provider may also take a small tissue sample for testing. Colposcopy is done in a clinic setting and usually takes only a few minutes, with little or no downtime afterward.
